The importance of slowing down

This weekend is Memorial Day in the United States. For some reason over the years I have had trouble NOT working on holidays. I think partly it feels like an extra day that I can get ahead and get some work done.

I once heard Jon Acuff talk about how he would bring 7 books on a vacation. It was his way of still finding work to do while he was supposed to be relaxing. This resonated with me so much because I’ve done that exact thing. I’m not going to have to work, so I’ll have time to read 6 months worth of books right?!

This weekend I decided I would try to slow down a bit and just coming to terms with that idea was huge for me. I actually started on Friday by doing a bit less work in the afternoon and it gave me time to stop and think, spend the weekend with Family, and get a few things done around the house I wanted to.

It is now the evening of Monday and I’m thinking through this week and what I need to do and I realized how awesome it was to take time and not feel like I had to get a huge amount of work done over the weekend. Sometimes as business owners we want to just keep pushing but space is good. When was the last time you slowed down? Are you always on like I am? Might be something to think about.
